If you want to design the perfect kit for backcountry skiers and snowboarders, a really good place to start is with the people that live in their gear: professional backcountry guides. So we turned to our friends up north, the Canadian Powder Guides, aka Capow Guiding.

Led by the inimitable Marty Schaffer, the Caposse is a band of professional guides whose mission is to merge the worlds of backcountry education and stoke-filled powder shredding.

The Capow Guides are incredible sources of inspiration for design not only because they have specific needs themselves, but also because they have thousands of hours of observing clients using different gear in the backcountry. It was from that well of experience and observations that we drew from to design the Capow Kit.

Integrated Beacon Pocket

The Capow Bib's built-in beacon pocket was a key feature of the pant. The pocket sits above the waistline on the wearer's right-side. We recommend this as a great place for your beacon as it creates a good distance from radios and/or cell phones stored on your upper left chest. For right-handed individuals, it is also a convenient and quick place to access your transceiver to switch to search mode.  Please follow your own training and recommendations from the transceiver manufacturer to decide what's right for you.

Drop-in Skins Storage

The Capow Jacket is a minimalist shell with just the right amount of storage for your backcountry tools. The chest pockets can accommodate a radio or cell phone, the hand pockets keep your small tools accessible, and the internal mesh pockets can store your skins for quick transitions or if want to keep them warm for the next lap.

Marty Schaffer

"My mission at Capow is to bring together the best industry professionals and recreational enthusiasts for an approachable, educational good time in the backcountry. The Capow Jacket and Bib is our uniform. Together, with TREW, we designed this kit to fit the needs of our professional team of guides as well as the needs of our clients, recreational backcountry skiers and snowboarders. The final products are ready to guide and ready to ride!"
