Ever wonder what happens when you get 25 talented female freeskiers from all over the world together?

We had the opportunity to find out this season thanks to TBL Sessions, a new women's streetstyle event founded this year by skier Taylor Brooke Lundquist at Brighton Resort.

About TBL Sessions

At the end of April, park skier and TREW Athlete Caoimhe Heavey (who goes by Quavo), had the incredible opportunity to attend TBL Sessions, a four-day private park shoot and rail jam alongside 15 invited pros and 10 video submission entry contest winners. Ladies from Canada, Europe, and across the U.S. came out to Salt Lake City to throw down and help grow the community like never before. Quavo gives us the low down on the event and shares more about her experience in the park.

The largest takeaway from TBL Sessions was the sense of community both on and off the hill. Thanks to the set up, all the skiers at this event had the opportunity to experience that. The riders stayed in the same lodge at the base of Brighton, ate meals together, rode on the hill together, and sang karaoke together.

TBL sessions was a safe space to push each other and every woman there was given a platform or an opportunity, and we all showed up. There was an unreal mix of technical, stylish, and jib tricks. The sense of community when you have a group of ladies hiking features, cheering each other on, and hollering every time someone gets a trick is unmatched.

"I found myself getting out of my comfort zone and switching my typical technical rail skiing of swap and spin combos, for more creative jib tricks and 50/50s." Photo by Matt Roebke

Events like TBL Sessions and Level 1’s Superunknown, which I also attended the week prior to this event, provide a rare opportunity to see so many unique approaches to features and skiing styles in one place.

In a historically male dominated sport, it is refreshing to see a ladies event. There has been a bigger push in the last few years to give women the space they deserve and have earned in freeskiing. It’s extremely encouraging to see everyone supporting this push. There has always been a place for women in freestyle skiing. Hopefully events like this one will encourage more girls and women to take up that space.

For The Girls

To any girl or woman who’s ever been nervous about getting into freestyle or park skiing; I know from my own experiences, and from many other women I’ve spoken to, that it can feel intimidating.

"The best piece of advice I can offer is to remember that everyone starts from scratch. Don’t let anything or anyone stop you from pushing yourself. The euphoria and enjoyment that you feel when you’re spinning park laps with your friends or landing a new trick is incomparable. Whether you’re new or getting back into park skiing, just go out and have fun"

~ Quavo

We'd recommend giving this baddie a follow on IG @caoimhe.heavey and huge thank you to @mattroebke who allowed us to share all the photos in this writeup that were taken at the event. Thanks Matt!
