We recently published an article all about our deep love of hut trips, and why you should give one a try. Here’s our top 3 hut trips in our home state of Oregon. There are plenty more out there for those willing to put the time and work in to find them, and don't forget to brush up on your avalanche + backcountry skills before you head out with your friends! 1. Tilly Jane A Frame - Mount Hood National Forest, OR Located on the skirt of one of our favorite volcanoes is the Tilly Jane hut. A perfect beginners hut trip, Tilly Jane is a good jumping off point for experiencing the flow of hut life without the commitment to being in the middle of nowhere. Easy to access and some fun burn zones provide stable skiing and snowboarding with the right conditions. We’re big fans of Tilly Jane! Photo by Shawn Linehan 2. Wallowa Alpine Huts - Eagle Cap Wilderness, OR This is one that’s been on our radar for awhile and we’ve heard and seen nothing but goodness from this beautiful little zone affectionately nicknamed “Little Switzerland”. 5 hours due east of Portland and you’ll find yourself in a powder paradise filled with terrain options for endless hot laps and unforgettable summits. Surrounded by peaks that come in at just under 10,000 feet this amazing north facing terrain is prime and accessible to backcountry goers of all abilities. There are 3 yurt zones to choose from and all boast incredible access to amazing Willowa powder, all for you and your friends. Photo by Michael Lanza 3. Tam Rim Alpine Huts Just in case you needed another reason to drive to Bend, here you go. We know we don’t need one! Tam Rim is located just west of Bend and has a picturesque yurt camp complete with a sauna. Similar to the Wallowa Alpine Huts, the terrain options here cater to novice and expert backcountry connoisseurs alike. On a day with high visibility Tam Rim offers incredible views of iconic peaks like The Sisters and Broken top, all within a few miles.
