Asit Rathod needs no introduction, but we'll do it anyway. Asit has skied from the summit of Mount Hood more than you. He has over 300 summit descents, along with over 1,500 days of climbing to ski the upper alpine of Mount Hood. Asit has been an Ambassador for TREW since the early days. His warm smile, stoke on life (and definitely on skiing), and gregarious personality comes through in everything he does. He was born in Portland, OR and started skiing at a young age. For several years he lived and skied between Chamonix, France and Las Lenas, Argentina and he is also a contributor to the 50 Classic Ski Descents of North America. Well he also published a book this winter! The book is a guide to the 7 major routes to ride from the summit of Mt Hood, an explanation of which routes to ride for ideal conditions - along with the severity of consequence - and inspiration for your summit riding dreams. You can snag the book here, 11,239: A Skiing and Snowboarding Guide from the Summit of Mt Hood. Meet Asit Q: How would your friends best describe you? A: "I can resist anything except temptation.” I think my three best friends would all attest that this Oscar Wilde quote sums me up pretty well. Q: What's Your Connection to TREW? A: I was out climbing Hood and ended up summiting with someone who was working with TREW and loved the look of the gear. It was a sick powder day and we were just out there having fun. I was wearing European gear at the time and was a size XXL so everything was pretty tight. I got connected with Chris at TREW and he was warm, welcoming, and hooked me up with a kit in the classic TREW fit. I’ve been wearing the gear ever since. Q: Favorite Line on Hood? A: I’ve skied a lot of lines on Mt Hood all over the mountain but the most fun, stable, and consistently in good condition is also the most popular ski line - Old Chute to West Crater Rim on the south side. Q: Most Pucker Inducing Line on Hood? A: Sandy Glacier Headwall. I cheated and tried to come out too early when descending and got caught up on the Reid Glacier. You can read more about that one in my guide book that was just released documenting all the Backcountry Routes on Mt Hood above 8,000 feet. The book is called 11,239 A Backcountry Riders Guide to the Summit of Mt Hood. Q: Best Day on Snow, Go?! A: Chris (TREW Ski-EO) and I climbed Mt Hood and skied Leuthold Couloir in two feet of fresh powder. Super cold smoke with no ice, which doesn’t come around that often. We popped out onto illumination saddle after the ski and ran into some people from Portland Mountain Rescue that were out doing a training that we knew. The sun was out and it was just good people on a good day. 2025 Book Release Party! We are throwing a shindig at TREW HQ in PDX for Asit on May 1, 2025 at 7pm.
