in available credit
The Afterlife Project is a way for TREW Gear customers to ensure that their old outerwear isn't tossed in the landfill, and instead make sure that their used gear is put to good use.
It is also a great way to trade in still-functional TREW Gear for store credit to put towards your next TREW item. Need a size up? Want that new color? Ready to try out the newest bib design? Trade in your old gear and put that money towards your upgrade. Easy, peasy.
Currently we are only offering The Afterlife Project to folks in the US.
If you live outside of the US, we would still love to hear from you - but we will likely direct you to donating your gear to a local organization in your neck of the woods to avoid international shipping costs and the associated fossil fuels burned in transport.
Currently only outerwear items qualify for the Afterlife Project. This includes all jackets, bibs, and pants - no matter the age or condition. We hope to open up this program to include other items, such as mid-layers, in the future.
There are two different categories within The Afterlife Project: trade-ins and donations.
If you have a qualifying TREW product that is still functional (zippers work, no rips or tears, little to no signs of delamination, etc.), you are eligible to send it to us in return for store credit. You are responsible for the cost of shipping you item(s) to us.
Once your trade-in has arrived to our HQ, our team will look it over and will be in touch with your store credit value - as well as additional information regarding how to redeem your credit online and where your item will be going on it's Afterlife Journey.
Items that are traded in through the Afterlife Project will either be donated or resold online through our Afterlife Store. Remember those pre-COVID garage sales we used to have? It will be like that, just virtual. We hope to have the Afterlife Store launched online by Summer 2021!
Items that are no longer wearable and are thoroughly thrashed will not qualify for store credit, but you can still donate these items to ensure that they don't end up in the landfill and instead get put to good use....
If you have a qualifying TREW product, functional or not, you are eligible to send it in to us as a donation. This means that you would not receive any store credit for you item, but we will cover the cost of shipping for you.
Once your donation has reached our HQ, our team will again look it over and determine the best way to give the item the "Afterlife treatment". Whether it be recycling the materials or zippers for warranty gear repairs, making up-cycled bags, packs, and assorted items out of the old material with the help of Truce Designs, or making minor in-house repairs before donating the item to a non-profit near and dear to our hearts, we can assure you that we will find a great way to make your old gear go a long way!
All up-cycled items made from donated gear will also be available for sale at our Afterlife Store, coming soon!
If you are interested in giving your TREW Gear the "Afterlife treatment", then let's get you rolling. Begin by sharing more information about your item (or items) at the below link:
Please reach out to email@example.com with any questions or concerns about your gear.
Please also note that by law, all garments sent in for this must be clean. Be prepared to wash trade-in gear before shipping. Any trade-ins that are shipped in unclean will incur a $15 cleaning fee, which will be subtracted from your credit amount. For help, here is a blog post on How to Wash Your Outerwear.
Where does still functional donated gear go?
All donated gear through The Afterlife Project is sent to our good friends over at Share Winter Foundation, an organization "working to improve the lives, health, and fitness of youth through winter sports". Share Winter has a national impact, and donated gear is spread across the country based on who needs it most.
Can my gear be donated even if it's no longer wearable?
Our goal is to donate as much outerwear as we can, but the truth is that some items may be past the point of repair. If your item is no longer wearable, we will try our very best to put some fresh life into it at our repair shop so that it can be donated - but if that is not an option, then your item will be recycled.
How is gear recycled through this project?
Once an item is deemed unrepairable and not fit for donation, then we will recycle the item. This can look different from one item to the next, depending on the age, condition, etc. When possible, we will use recycled items for parts and fabric at our repair shop so that we can resurrect other products for our community. We will also up-cycle any items when it makes sense, and with the help of some local makers it's not uncommon to see a jacket turn into a backpack or a pair of old bibs turn into a few hats. Just because an item no longer meets the demands of skiing or snowboarding doesn't mean it doesn't have more life in it!
If I choose to receive TREW store credit for my item, how much credit can I expect?
This is where things get a bit more complicated, as the amount of credit received for an item through the Afterlife Project is directly dependent on the item's age, condition, and a myriad of other factors. We will be able to provide a credit quote once you have submitted your Afterlife Project Form and share more information about the item in question.
If I chose to donate my gear, am I responsible for shipping costs?
Nope! Just fill out the form and make sure to let us now that you would like to donate your item(s), and then we will send over a prepaid shipping label for you to send your old gear to our HQ. From there, we will perform an extensive evaluation of the item(s) and determine how it/they will be best used.
Where can I purchase lightly used TREW gear or up-cycled items?
We will be launching our Afterlife Store by Summer 2021, and you will be able to shop and purchase all items from The Afterlife Project - lightly used gear, up-cycled packs + items, etc. - here once it has launched. More info to come soon...
