Backcountry Beta is Back!

By Katherine Donnelly on

Isn't it just the best when those temps finally start dropping, and the reports start coming in on light dustings, first snowfalls, and projected open dates from across the country?

There's just something incredibly special about this time of year, where minds shift to snow-filled daydreams and plans start to get set for the coming months. Year after year, it never gets old; that anticipation is contagious and we'll never get tired of it.

And to add to the excitement, we are over the freaking moon here at TREW to announce that we're back for a third year of Backcountry Beta with our awesome friends over at Coalition Snow. This year promises to be better than ever, with a whole new lineup of special guests, relevant backcountry topics chosen by the community, and even more online resources to help you get comfortable and confident with new skills in the mountains.

The Deets on Backcountry Beta

What? Plain awesome, that's what. But in all seriousness, the Backcountry Beta virtual event series is designed to help us all refresh our backcountry knowledge, learn new safety skills, open our eyes to different perspectives, and build our confidence in the mountains.

Choose from a free plan, or opt to pay it forward. All proceeds from Backcountry Beta will support the Indigenous Backcountry Scholarship.

Who? This event series is open to women, non-binary, and other underrepresented genders who share a love of winter and a love of snow.

When? 5 PM PST on the second Wednesday of every month November 2022 thru March 2023.

How? It's easy to join in on the fun:

    1. If you're not already a member, join the Coalition Clubhouse.
    2. Register for Backcountry Beta. Once you're in the Clubhouse, look for Backcountry Beta in the navigation on the left (desktop) or under the hamburger in top left (mobile app).

That's it! See, pretty dang easy.

Event #1: Shift Into Your Backcountry Mindset

Our first event of the year will be led by Ginny White, a longtime TREW athlete, ski guide, and accredited snow forecaster. Ginny will be taking the reins and guiding us through how she preps for Winter, including:

  • Gear check + what you should get prepped
  • Shifting your mindset, practicing skills, honing your brain + awareness for crucial backcountry behaviors like terrain navigation, decision making, and risk mitigation
  • Goal setting
  • And more!

Join In + Win BIG!

Big news for this season's Backcountry Beta: Every time you join a live session, you'll be added to our giveaway. At the end of the five sessions, we'll be giving two lucky people $250 gift cards to both Coalition Snow and TREW Gear. Get more entries for every time you join an event!

See you there!
