Cosmic Charlie, how do you do? Truckin' in style along the avenue.

Whether it’s an ‘84 Toyota Pickup or an eight-pound sledgehammer, we admire things with straight, clean lines that embody function and eschew fussiness. They tend to work well and they usually last a long time, and that’s what we consider good design.

The Cosmic Jacket is our tribute to this principle. So much so that if you already own one, well . . .  you probably won’t need another jacket for quite a while, if you even want one. It combines classic alpine design with modern materials and thoughtful updates to deliver a backcountry-ready, resort-appropriate shell that is iconically timeless, functional, and tough.

      Best In The Biz

      Hi Trew Crew!

I've owned three Cosmic jackets over the years (2014/15-2018/19) and year over year the product keeps getting better.

I've also owned numerous kits from other companies with varying high-end fabrics from GTX 3L Pro-Shell, PolarTec Neo Shell, etc and the Cosmic hits the perfect blend of high-end technical outerwear and all day comfort without breaking the bank. For context, I worked as a retail buyer for a ski/ride shop for years and have tired on almost every brand's comparable kits, and the Cosmic is the winner winner chicken dinner every time. Some say when Trew made this jacket the stars aligned.

All bad puns aside, I would recommend this jacket to anyone who wants a something that will hold up to anything you throw at it and not look like every kook on the hill wearing their TNF, Patagonia, Arc'teryx, etc that are available at all your big box online or brick and mortar stores. Regardless if you're a rad dad, shred mom, backcountry guide or a never ever this jacket will be your go to shell every time you open up the gear locker.

Hope this review helped you in your purchase process, and if you ever had any doubts on this jacket you can effectively squash them immediately - this thing is the Trewth!

      Happy Ending

So beyond stoked that after 8 years I've finally found my forever shell. I feel like I live a modified version of the Goldilocks story and instead of being Goldilocks I'm a hermit crab crawling into different outerwear brands to find my "just right" moment. Trew is that moment for me! Bare bones and functional is just how I like it, and the Cosmic jacket has been a steadfast companion in the skin track or on the chairlift. Loose but not overly baggy fit, great articulation for riding and touring, and easy to combine with my varying layers. Spot on every single time with this jacket! Sharp yet modest, waterproof and capable. Everything you need, nothing that you don't

      Long Arms

First off this is a well thought out and high quality jacket. Pockets are in the right spots, material seems rugged, the hood fits over my helmet. I am 5’ 7” with a stockier upper body so I went with the medium. My only complaint is the sleeves are about 3”s longer than my previous jacket. I ended up folding the sleeves over.

      Love this jacket!

This jacket is awesome!! I get compliments on it all day long! My only gripe is that there is not a loop to hang it up...kind of surprised it didn't have one at that price point. I so badly want to matching Trewth bibs but can't afford them right now. Great quality Trew! Thanks for the opportunity to review.

Nick, thanks for the review! Glad you're enjoying the Cosmic. We did add a hanger loop for 2019/2020, sorry for that oversight.

      Breathable with awesome fit

I'm not usually one to write reviews but I'm in love with this jacket. I purchased the Cosmic last year in the bright red color and used it most of this season. The fabric is awesome! I feel it's possibly more breathable than gore-tex pro and it doesn't have the crinkly noise. It's also pretty soft to the touch but holds up against trees. I do a fair amount of bootpacking and normally I need to either take off my shell or really open it up. With the Cosmic, I can usually get by just using the pit-zips. The pocket lay-out is perfect. The two smallish chest pockets work great for a lens wipe or bar. And the arm pocket is perfect for RFID tags when resort skiing. In terms of fit, it's looser than a mountaineering shell which is exactly what I was looking for in a jacket. For reference, I'm 5'11" and 170 lbs and I purchased a medium.

I have 3 minor suggestions to improve the jacket (and these really are minor). First, I'd love to be able to remove the powder skirt. Other jackets like Flylow's Quantum have that option. I ski with Trewth bibs and the powder skirt plus bibs combo is usually overkill. Second, I would make the hood maybe 1-2 inches larger. I have a POC auric cut and I find it would be better to have a touch more space (or maybe I just have a big dome). Finally, I'd like to have 2-way pit-zips, which allows for some different venting options. I looked at this year's model and it seems like that's already been added though. Other than those minor quibbles, I think this jacket is just about perfect!

      Patrick, stellar feedback! Thanks.
